Study design
Twenty-nine cats and 19 owners participated. Urinary oxytocin and cortisol were measured over one month in owners and 24 cats with available samples, while BLE beacons recorded household proximity.
Main associations
Higher owner oxytocin correlated with higher cat oxytocin, while higher owner cortisol correlated with lower cat oxytocin. Higher cat oxytocin was associated with less negative owner mood, and closer proximity with greater owner vigour.
Limitations
The sample was small and mostly female, directionality is unknown, and shared household conditions may explain part of the associations.
Travel value from Korea
This is not a clinical service or recruiting veterinary trial, so it provides no reason to travel to Japan with a cat. It belongs in the research evidence library, not a cross-border treatment product.
