Oveporexton: Japan-approved OX2R agonist for narcolepsy type 1
Oveporexton (brand name in Japan: オーゼイフル) is an oral selective OX2R agonist for adults with narcolepsy type 1.
Status: Japanese marketing approval on August 24, 2026. It is not a general treatment for daytime sleepiness. Reimbursement listing, launch and hospital availability are separate milestones.
Why it matters
The drug targets orexin signaling, a core biological deficit in narcolepsy type 1, rather than simply treating nonspecific sleepiness.
What an international patient should verify
- Confirmed NT1 diagnosis by a sleep specialist
- Whether the approved indication fits the patient
- Whether the chosen hospital has actually introduced the drug
- Insurance status, medication cost and follow-up schedule
